Ann – A Friend of Jesus 2013

Sharing life through the Word of God with love, encouragement and faith in challenging times (smile)

Words Have Power

Words have power. Throughout the generations, from childhood to adulthood, words spoken to us (to include the people who raised us and the people who raised them) helped shape our perceptions about ourselves, relationships, life decisions and God.

Words have the power to build up or tear down; words leave scars, shattered hearts or broke spirits. Young or old, to experience anything, not of love, results in emotional problems; bad behavior; wrong decisions; hating ourselves; immaturity; envy; jealously; anger; rage; lack of trust or respect; control issues; low self esteem; insecurities; fear; shame; abandonment; manipulation; selfishness; and substance abuse–the list can go on and on to include pride. Some hurts are so deep, there is cement around the heart; masks are worn to hide what is really underneath.

Throughout the generations, to include people in the bible, everyone has a story that they could tell. The bible is a blueprint for life. God love us first.

Bottom line, issues that come up in relationships stem from words spoken to children who grow into adults speaking the very words spoken to them. We can’t give what we never had. Everybody wants to be loved. Depending on the words we carry within us, that are not of love, every relationship will force us to take responsibility for our choices. When we run or leave–instead of walking through the process, we will continue to attract that person who has our same issues and ugh, it is not pretty.

All of us have baggage or brokenness in some area of our lives until we choose Jesus. The lies we grow up believing is that we have to be perfect. We have to look a certain way for someone to love us. We usually end up settling for less than God’s best because everybody else has someone and we don’t want to be alone.

Nobody is perfect except Jesus. The folks who raised us did the best that they knew how and like us today, just “didn’t know any better.” Things happen–our marriage becomes strained; we’re about to be divorce again; we’re stuck due to a death of a loved one; we’re paralyzed by something or someone–these same things happen from generations before us and continue to this day, to include more because of the technology in the 21st century and things are evolving.

The truth is–we just don’t know any better until Jesus shows us how. God has a plan for each of us. When we’re ready, He opens our eyes and ears and He speaks to us.

God has always been in charge, in John 16:33, He says “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. So fear not, because by faith, it is already done. 🙂

His Word is the truth yesterday, today and tomorrow and the day after…His Word never changes.

When we choose Jesus, God changes us putting the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith in us. Basically, He is replacing anything not of love and opening our hearts. Changing us from glory to glory. It’s a beautiful thing to love people like God loves us.

To be like Jesus is a life long process. We die daily to our flesh man and our inner spirit man grows stronger with the help of the Holy Spirit that resides in us. As God prunes and plucks, our outsides begin to shine because God is filling the holes on the inside. We shine like new pennies 🙂 We start to see life from His eyes. We can love as He loves. We can speak words that lift up, build up and encourage. We are able to broaden our perspective on everything, to include adapting to one another and accepting we may not agree but we can still get along. We become “doers” of the word. We speak life into our relationships and situations to break those still in bondage because they don’t know any better.

Things happen but we keep moving forward as God continues to show His presence all around us.

Your thoughts? 🙂

To be continued……

Proverbs 4:4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

Proverbs 8:6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turn away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 16:4 The Lord hath made all things for himself; yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Proverbs 21:23 Whoso keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

John 1-1:14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believe to in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quicken; the flesh profit nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Mark 12:29 -31 And Jesus answered him, (Moses) the first of all commandments is, Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shall love The Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandant. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at:

Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

1 John 4:2 Hereby know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

1 John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God hearth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

1 John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Romans 8:28. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

The old saying ‘sticks and stone may break my bones but words will never hurt me’ is actually false. Our physical body can recover from a broken bone. We learn to become more careful not to do what caused us to break it, but words break our spirit, become our inner voice, a constant pessimistic view of ourselves that we believe. Words linger long after our bruises heal. Sometimes they cripple us, but thankfully God IS. He is everything we need in our moments of doubt and fear. If we write all those mean nasty words people tried to speak into our lives and burn them, God can purge their roots from our spirit and replace them with love and tenderness. Amen on a great post!!!!
