Things and Stuff – Control Your Breathing!

Hello, my friends (smile) Wahoo, I survived the dentist but it was not pretty! (shock face) It’s official, I am not a fan of going to the Dentist! How about you?

I struggle with anxiety about those needles! Ugh! I rather walk on hots coals with no shoes than get those shots! (forced smile) Grace, I needed plenty of grace this afternoon! I did learn something. Control your breathing!

Today, when I sat in the chair, and the dentist came toward me with that needle, I held my breathe and tensed up. Wrong thing to do!

By the time, I was numb and he dropped the chair way back, I couldn’t feel part of my nose and I thought, OMG, I can’t breathe. Once that thought lingered, anxiety gripped harder and every silly thought flooded my mind. I was overwhelmed and couldn’t think how to breathe through my nose. (shock face)

It’s at that moment, I start to remember old stuff, here I’m sitting working myself up in a frenzy, my mouth is wide open and for one split second, I want to jump up and flee. (smile) I almost said, never mind, I don’t need good teeth! Usually, when I get nervous or anxious, I can sing a sing in my mind, pfft, not day! No song stayed long enough to drive out the thought…I can’t breath! (shock face)

I started to squirm and He stopped and asked was I alright, as he removes the guard thing holding my mouth wide open, I sit up to catch my breath and we resume. I spent the rest of the time mediating on this too shall pass, this too shall pass. Praise The Lord! This too shall pass. (smile)

Oh and the funniest part, by the time, we are finished, I look and feel like I was in a fight…hair all messed up, face all numb. (big grin) Sometimes, we must keep our sense of humor!

Learning to control our breathing in any problem or situation, especially when anxiety shows up will help keep our insides calm. (smile)

I would love to hear one of your anxiety moments. (smile) Be blessed!

  1. Good advice. Public speaking cause the biggest fear in me. I haven’t gotten an handle on handling this fear yet but I will take your advice Ann and just breathe!!

  2. Good advice about the breathing–ever since childhood, I’ve held my breath when frightened–or breathed shallowly so no one would notice. There are times today, that I have to remind myself to breathe…. Bravo for facing your fear of dentists again. God bless you BIG!
