Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about forgiveness. There’s nothing new about the virtues of forgiveness. This is a core Christian principle. It seems that sometimes we think that judgement (of one another) is the core principle of Christianity but actually love and forgiveness are what we should be striving to acheive.
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
Notice that there are no exceptions to that command to forgive. It doesn’t say…If that person really really hurt you, go ahead and hold onto that grudge.
As our creator, God knows what is best for us. He doesn’t tell us to do something simply to show us He is in charge. He knows that failing to forgive ultimately hurts us. It doesn’t hurt that other person when we refuse to forgive them. If they didn’t care about hurting…
